Emerging in the 1980's New York Art scene, Christopher Wool is best known for his graphic, black and white word prints and paintings. Wool plays with language and uses machine technology to create bold prints that evoke graffiti, advertising, and pop culture, while probing at underlying values and assumptions of American culture. The featured selection of images comes from Christopher Wool's 1989 work, Black Book. Initially a bound collection of 17 prints, these works are printed on smooth wove paper as part of an edition of 350.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Christopher Wool has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburg, and a retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. He was named Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, and received the Wolfgang Hahn Prize from Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany.
