Common Name Joaquin Garcia's Anacheilium [Costa Rican Orchid Enthusiast current]

Flower Size 1.6" [4 cm]

Found in Costa Rica in wet lower montane and montane forests at elevations of 1800 to 2000 meters as a medium sized, cool growing epiphyte with cylindric, linear to subfusiform, sulcate pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 3, imbricating, acuminate sheaths and carrying 2, apical, linear-elliptic to narrowly elliptic, fleshy, obtuse, narrowing below into the sessile base leaves that blooms in the fall on a terminal, erect, 7.6" [19 cm] long, many flowered, racemose inflorescence arising through a green spathe and carrying successively opening, non-resupinate flowers opening from the apex down

Similar to and possibly related to A radiata but A joaquingarciana has linear, subterete psuedobulbs spotted tepals, a widely ovate lip and a superposed pair of calli.

Other species that can be confused with A joaquingarciana is A baculus which has a 2 flowered inflorescence and Epidendrum baculibulbum which has longer pseudobulbs that carry carries 3 leaves and widely oblong sepals and an inconspicuous lip that is not much longer than the column.
