Injured Jaime Ayoví replaced by Daniel Angulo in Ecuador squad

Ecuador have suffered another withdrawal from their squad for Copa América 2015, with a muscle strain ruling Jaime Ayoví out of contention for the competition in Chile.

The striker picked up an injury during la Tri’s 1-1 draw with Panama on June 3 and was subsequently replaced at half time by Jefferson Montero.

Ayoví sat out the following game against the same opposition but still travelled with the squad to Chile.

However, it has now been confirmed by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) that the striker will not be fit in time for the Copa.

“The doctor of the Ecuadorian national team, Dr. Patricio Maldonado, has officially informed that Jaime Ayoví will definitely not be in the national team that faces Chile in the opening match of the Copa América this Thursday [June 11],” a statement on the FEF’s official website read.

“After a series of tests were conducted, it was established that [Ayoví] would not recover in time from a muscle strain and swelling in his right leg.

“The coaching staff decided to summon Daniel Angulo who will leave from Quito on Wednesday.”

Ayoví is the fourth withdrawal from Gustavo Quinteros’ squad after injury ruled Antonio Valencia, Ángel Mena and Michael Arroyo out of the tournament.

Angulo last featured for Ecuador in their 1-0 defeat to Brazil in September 2014.
