Leandro Lo
Leandro Lo Pereira do Nascimento is a current and multiple time Brazilian jiu jitsu world champion. Leandro holds a black belt under Cicero Costha and no longer trains at Cicero Costha Academy in São Paulo, Brazil. He has created the NS Brotherhood team with high level competitors such as Paulo and João Miyao who train at Unity BJJ in New York City.He is considered by many to be one of the top grappling competitions of his generation. Leandro is a record holder for most IBJJF World titles in different weight classes, a total of 4: light weight, middle weight, medium heavy weight, and open weight. Lo currently shares this record with the legendary competitor Saulo Ribeiro. He has won numerous times at other prestigious events, including the World Cup, Pan American championships and Brazilian National Jiu Jitsu Championships. He held an unbeaten winning streak at the Copa Podio from 2011 to 2013.

Leandro Lo biography
Leandro Lo was born on the east side of São Paulo, Brazil on May 11th, 1989. Leandro Lo started training Jiu Jitsu through a social project for underprivileged children led by Cicero Costha called Projecto Social Lutando Pelo Bem (PSLPB) in 2004. Lo was a natural athlete and won a bunch of major titles as a junior such as the Mundial in 2005 and 2006. When Leandro was a blue belt he was known for being a spider guard and triangle specialist when grappling. Leandro would have to change his game due to an injury when he reached the purple belt level. It was an injury that stopped him from competing for several months. With the pressure of competition removed from Lo’s lifestyle he started working on his top game, which would become what he would be known for when competing as a black belt.
When the CBJJ / IBJJF moved its most important tournament, the Mundial, to the United States in 2007 it forced many Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitors such as Leandro Lo to travel to America. Having lost their primary tournament to show case their skills, many grapplers were left competing at smaller events, most of which were won by Leandro. Leandro would turn heads in 2011 after he won the trials in the south of Brazil (Gramado). It was here that Lo defeated two legends in the final stage of the tournament, Michael Langhi and Celso Vinicius. Langhi was considered by many to be the best light weight in the world at that time, as he had not lost a competition in more than 3 years. But then in 2012, Leandro Lo cemented his name as the best light weight competitor active at that time after winning the Pan American, the Brazilian Nationals and the Mundial World Championship. Leandro was a force to be reckoned with. He would also medial in the open weight divisions with a win at the Brazilian No Gi Nationals and having placed second at the No Gi World Championship.
After all of these competitive wins in the light weight division Leandro Lo made the decision to move up in weight. As a middle weight he still continued to dominate his competition at top grappling competitions in both gi and no gi. In 2015 Leandro Lo and a few of his team mates decoded to cut ties with the PSLPB team. Lo and the others would go on to form their own academy known as the Jiu Jitsu New School Brotherhood, with a team named the same. This would become the new home for many top level competitors at the time, including Luiza Monteiro, Helio Dias, Gustavo “Braguinha”, Ygor Schneider, Anderson Lira and Wellington Luís.
During June, 2018, Leandro Lo would finally match Saulo Ribeiro’s 4 IBJJF world titles in 4 different weight classes. Lo was scheduled to compete in the final of the open weight class against Marcus Almeida, however Marcus was injured and chose to forfeit the title and not challenge Leandro. This would award the Sao Paulo native his first absolute title and his 4th world title in different weight classes.
