Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has reportedly instructed his agent to secure a move to the Premier League, per Sky Sports, and Chelsea have been closely linked with the Uruguay international.

The 27-year-old is a real talent—scoring 22 goals for the French champions last season in Ligue 1 and the Champions League combined, per Soccerbase—but is he the type of player that the Blues require?

Cavani's disquiet in Paris stems from the fact that he has had to play second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swede has been handed Cavani's preferred role through the middle, with the former Napoli man shunted out wide in a 4-3-3 formation to accommodate Ibrahimovic.

With Chelsea having just signed prolific striker Diego Costa for £32 million from Atletico Madrid, that is unlikely to change at Stamford Bridge.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho likes to play with one main striker, and that man will be Diego Costa, who scored 35 goals during the 2013-14 season for the La Liga winners, per WhoScored.com. Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku, and possibly Didier Drogba, wait in the wings as backup.

However, it would seem that Cavani has long had a desire to play at Stamford Bridge. Last summer, a source close to the player told Roberto Pessoa of Goal:

Although Edinson loves Real Madrid, he feels that his style would fit the Premier League much better, and Chelsea are the only chance he has of playing there. Edinson has already instructed Napoli that he wants to leave and is hopeful that his situation can be resolved as soon as possible.

If Cavani truly desires to join Chelsea, he just might be willing to play out of position. But once again, there are problems.

The likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard, Willian and Andre Schurrle already occupy those positions. Cavani is unlikely to want to be part of a rotation with at least four other players.

Another spanner in the works is the price. PSG only signed Cavani from Napoli last summer, for a whopping £55 million, and he still has four years remaining on his contract.

The striker's services would not come cheap. And with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool also in the hunt, per the Daily Express, a bidding war could ensue.

It's hardly worth Chelsea getting involved in an auction for a player who has no obvious place in the team.

Cavani is, of course, a quality striker. He has more than 60 caps for Uruguay and a history of scoring goalsincluding 95 in 127 games for Napoli, per Soccerbase

He played in all four of Uruguay's matches at the 2014 World Cup, scoring one goal, and will undoubtedly find a new club. However, a move to Chelsea doesn't really make sense for either the Blues or Cavani.

Liverpool are looking for a striker though...
