Yaya Toure has revealed that he is “unsure” about his long-term future at Manchester City in an interview with Amanda Davies of CNN.

The midfielder, who is currently away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Ivory Coast, described 2014 as a “horrible year” and was coy when pressed on whether he’d be staying with the English champions.

That's a big question and that's an easy question as well, and you have an easy answer ... we'll see.

I don't know. I'm at City. City is a great club where I've achieved lots of things.

Here’s the interview in full courtesy of CNN (h/t Will Tidey of Bleacher Report):

Off the pitch, things were very difficult for Toure in 2014. His younger brother Ibrahim died while Yaya was on international duty at the Brazil World Cup, and despite what was surely a harrowing few months for his family, the 31-year-old has remained a rumbustious and irrepressible influence in the heart of the Citizens’ midfield.

As we can see here courtesy of OptaJoe, Toure remains one of the league’s best goalscorers, too, despite operating as an orthodox central midfield player:

5 - Most Premier League goals since the start of last season: Aguero - 31 Suarez - 31 Yaya Toure - 27 Bony - 25 Rooney - 25. Teammates.

Toure has been linked with a move from City in the past, with the now infamous birthday-cake-gate sparking rumours he could be set for a departure from the Etihad Stadium earlier this campaign, per BBC Sport.

But since that incident was put to bed, the Ivorian has been one of his club’s best players this season and will be hopeful of leading Ivory Coast to AFCON glory.

Encouragingly for City fans, he certainly didn’t seem keen on a move away when talking about City’s new signing Wilfried Bony on Twitter recently:

Yaya Touré @YayaToure

I will for sure look after our new citizen @wilfried bony and bring him safe to his new home. U can count on me captain @VincentKompany

Toure remains one of the world’s best midfield men and his indomitable presence and goalscoring ability would be tough to replace should he set off in search of pastures new. But if the player is keen to move on and a sizeable bid does come in for the 31-year-old, the City hierarchy will surely have to consider it very carefully.
