Arsenal Transfer News: Jack Wilshere Not for Sale, Vlad Dragomir Deal Rumoured

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will turn down any offer from Manchester City for Jack Wilshere, but he won't be rushed into handing the England international a new contract.  

Jeremy Wilson of the Daily Telegraph reports the Gunners "will wait until into next season" before opening talks on an extension to Wilshere's deal.

His current agreement runs until 2018, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, but rumours of City's interest continue to do the rounds in the English press. Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News reports Wilshere is a "back-up option" for Manuel Pellegrini's side if City's bid to land Juventus starlet Paul Pogba fails.

"Wenger is adamant that the club must only strengthen this summer and that none of his key young players will be sold," according to Wilson.

City's need for homegrown talent has also seen them linked with Liverpool's Raheem Sterling, per Wilson.

Wilshere previously admitted he won't be coaxed into leaving the Emirates Stadium just to tick a box, as quoted by Wilson: "I definitely wouldn't go somewhere just because I'm a homegrown player. I'd want to be wanted by a club. I want to be wanted by Arsenal. I've grown up at Arsenal, I'm a homegrown player and, as long as Arsenal want me, then I'm happy."

The emergence of defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin added great balance to Wenger's lineup during the latest of Wilshere's injury layoffs. He is now an essential component of the side alongside Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey, meaning he must hit a stretch of top-quality form to hold down a first-team place.

He is a fine passer and loves to receive possession, look up and distribute. England manager Roy Hodgson recently provided Wilshere with an advanced role behind the attacking line, which yielded two excellent goals during the Three Lions' 3-2 win over Slovenia.

The midfielder hasn't managed more than 20 Premier League starts in one season since 2012-13 and has continued to pick up frustrating injuries.

Arsenal progressed without him last season, so it's now the 23-year-old's job to outline himself as a key part of the north London club's plans. Like Ramsey's breakout campaign of '13-14, Wilshere needs to make onlookers stand up and take notice on a regular basis.

The Gunners have added another young talent to their ranks in the shape of Vlad Dragomir from ACS Poli Timisoara, according to Romanian newspaper Pro Sport (via the Daily Star's Colin Harvey).

Jack De Menezes of the Independent also cites Pro Sport when suggesting Arsenal have paid £71,000 in compensation for the midfielder. An image of Gunners chief negotiator Dick Law with the player has also emerged on Twitter, per Metro:

Wenger has always appeared keen to keep the core of his squad together while making minor upgrades. Maintaining the presence of Wilshere will be key to Arsenal's future if the player manages to consistently find his best form. Few English players possess Wilshere's technical quality on the ball. 

Dragomir's reported arrival is in keeping with the manager's willingness to give youth a chance, something Wenger has shown throughout his tenure with the Gunners, as highlighted by his continued dependence on Wilshere.
