WWE WrestleMania 28: The Rock vs John Cena and 10 Other Matches We'd Love to See

0 of 10

We're only a week removed from WrestleMania 27 and already the stage has been set for next year. It took just over 24 hours after the end of WrestleMania and the biggest match of the current generation was announced.

On April 1, the faces of two different WWE eras will face off for the first time in history. It's the match that the world has been waiting for, John Cena vs. The Rock.

There isn't much to say about this match-up that hasn't already been said. WWE fans were expecting this match to happen much sooner, as Cena and The Rock had begun their feud over a month ago.

Waiting a whole year for an announced match to take place has its risks. The last time WWE tried announcing plans for WrestleMania a year in advance, it didn't turn out as they had hoped.

Still, I think that if done right, this could turn out to be one of the biggest matches in WWE history.

While this match will undoubtedly be the main event that many have been waiting for years to see, what about the rest of the card? The announcement of John Cena and The Rock's match has us already thinking about WrestleMania 28, but it won't be the only draw of the night.

Since it is never too early to start predicting matches in WWE, here's a look at 10 other potential matches for next year's grandest stage of them all.

Sin Cara vs. Rey Mysterio

1 of 10

Ever since the announcement that WWE had signed Sin Cara, formerly known as Mistico, comparisons were immediately drawn between him and Rey Mysterio.

Obviously the high-flying style and luchador masks are what we instantly recognize as similarities, even though these two might seem completely different if they wrestled in Mexico. In WWE, however, it is only a matter of time before the two meet face-to-face.

I see Rey Mysterio continuing his current feud with Cody Rhodes for a few months. Eventually he'll flirt with the main event for a Pay-Per-View or two, but won't achieve World Champion status.

Meanwhile, Sin Cara will have a couple of good feuds on the mid-card, as we have already seen him attack Sheamus and Jack Swagger. He might even have a run as the United States Champion for a few months.

Eventually their two paths will cross. I see it happening at the Royal Rumble, possibly when Raw's Sin Cara and SmackDown's Rey Mysterio (or vice versa) meet for the first time in the Royal Rumble Match.

Two months and many cross-brand appearances later and the two will meet at WrestleMania for one of the best lucha libre matches in WWE history.

Tag Team Championship TLC Match: Edge/Christian vs. Sheamus/Drew McIntyre

2 of 10

We all thought that something big was going to happen at WrestleMania 27 between Edge and Christian.  Unfortunately the resulting outcome was less than impressive.

So it seems as if an Edge and Christian feud is off the radar for the time being, but them teaming up seems like a sure bet.

The pairing of Sheamus and Drew McIntyre stems back to their days prior to their WWE arrival.  The two have teamed and feuded in just about every promotion they have competed in, including FCW, BCW (British Championship Wrestling) and IwW (Irish Whip Wrestling).

The two have great chemistry together and would make an excellent pairing, representing the United Kingdom in a way that hasn’t been seen in WWE for a long time.

Edge will remain World Heavyweight Champion for another month or two.  He’ll drop the title without Christian interfering.  The two will then team up and help breathe life back into the Tag Team division, winning Tag Team gold and keeping it for many months.

Meanwhile, in order to finally get a reaction from the crowd, Drew McIntyre will be paired with one of the company's top heels, Sheamus.  The two of them will take out several mid-card or lower superstars, such as R-Truth or Santino.

In a superb clash between good and bad, E&C take on the team from Northern Europe in the only match that is fitting for one of the teams involved.

In the end, the team of Edge and Christian implodes, allowing Sheamus and McIntyre to take the titles while the former champs move back into singles action.

Diva's Championship 4-Way: Awesome Kong vs. Beth Phoenix vs. Melina vs. Natalya

3 of 10

We’ve been waiting for months for Awesome Kong to make her WWE debut.  Her arrival will surely shake up the WWE Diva’s division in a way that has never been seen.

Hopefully this helps bring some attention and credibility to the Diva’s division.  With Kong in the picture, only the most athletic Divas will be able to compete.

After Kong arrives, it shouldn‘t be long before she wins the Diva‘s Title.  The rest of the Divas will then seem to take their turns trying to dethrone the champion.  Time after time, they will fail to topple the monster.

The Diva’s will eventually learn that they won’t be able to knock Kong down one-on-one.  The top three Diva’s in line will find a way to get their shot, and help each other get Kong out of the picture.

In the end, anyone could walk out as champion.  Any one of the challengers could steal the belt from underneath the others, or the three could clash and not be able to take out Kong effectively.  Either way, it would make for a Diva’s match at WrestleMania that would keep people interested.

Big Show vs. Ezekiel Jackson

4 of 10

This is a match-up that I was hoping to see at this year’s WrestleMania.  With the Corre taking on Santino and friends, I thought it was a sure thing that we would see these two giants face off in the ring.

Instead, we were treated to the shortest match of the night, and the two never even looked at each other.

I think that WWE really dropped the ball here.  They had the potential for a really great confrontation, if not a full blown feud.

We’ve already seen the strength of Big Zeke and we know how impressive Big Show can be.  This pairing of giants would definitely be a match that you wouldn’t want to miss.

I see Big Show flirting with the Main Event, but only really ending up in the larger title matches with 4+ competitors.  He’s become more of a novelty and doesn’t seem to be taken as serious as he has in the past.

Ezekiel Jackson will remain the No. 4 guy in The Corre until they finally break apart.  He’ll then finally step out on his own, something we have yet to ever really see in his entire career with the WWE.

During one of Big Show’s flirtations with the main event, Ezekiel Jackson will make himself known and take down the giant.  The two will continue to compete in their week-to-week matches, constantly trying to one up each other.

The two will then clash on the grandest stage of them all in a match that will see some of the biggest slams since Hogan dropped Andre.

8-Man Elimination Style Match for the United States Championship

5 of 10

Kofi Kingston vs. John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Seth Rollins vs. Alex Riley vs. Santino Marella vs. R-Truth

What WrestleMania 27 truly lacked was the high flying, fast paced match with big spots that kept the fans on the edge of their seats, whether they were in the arena or sitting in front of the television screen.

I think that a match, either elimination style or even possibly as a ladder match, with upwards of eight superstars is what WrestleMania needs to get the fans going at the start of the night.

This match will feature practically all of the mid card Superstars from either Raw or SmackDown (or possibly both).

There will probably be two or more feuds thrown together in this match, and I see potential or former main event Superstars such as Dolph Ziggler or John Morrison still held down in the Mid Card.

I also hope to see Seth Rollins finally make his debut and taste WrestleMania for the first time.

I could see just about any one of the participants entering the match with the title.  Personally, I’d like to see Ted DiBiase get back on track and obtain the United States title some time around the Royal Rumble and carry it to WrestleMania.

What WrestleMania 27 failed to do was push Alberto Del Rio into the spotlight and truly turn him into an instant star.  I think that WWE was hesitant to put the title on him so quickly, and rightly so.

However, I hope that WWE is able to do that with a match like this, by pushing someone like Seth Rollins (or the Tough Enough winner) into the picture quickly by placing the United States title on them.

It seems less risky than a World Title, yet it could be equally as effective.

Street Fight: David Otunga vs. Wade Barrett

6 of 10

You’d be kidding yourself if you think that the original Nexus storyline played out in a way that it should have or was originally supposed to.  Injuries and last minute changes to storylines turned what could have been one of the greatest stables in WWE history into something that will be forgotten in no time.

The Nexus is on their way out the door (check wweshop.com and see what Nexus items are selling for) and The Corre was created just to keep the original Nexus around in case they wanted to set up Undertaker vs. Wade Barrett.

One of the biggest things that I think was lost from the original Nexus and the break-up that would have eventually have happened was a confrontation between leader Wade Barrett and their most outspoken member, David Otunga.

Before everything went down with CM Punk taking over, the tension between Barrett and Otunga was growing steadily week after week, and I was getting excited for what I thought would be one hell of a fallout.

Over the next three to six months I see The Nexus and then eventually The Corre breaking down and fading away.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater remain as a tag team, but the other members of both factions will likely take a shot at singles action.

Eventually, Barrett will come face to face with Otunga and the tension that was present before Barrett moved over to SmackDown will return.

I think that these two Superstars will face a few times before WrestleMania 28, but with the resulting outcomes being questioned or possibly with both superstars gaining equal victories and losses.

The end result will be a destructive match where the two will really be able to step out and show that they can be top-level performers in WWE.

Intercontinental Championship: Cody Rhodes vs. Daniel Bryan

7 of 10

Cody Rhodes deserves a title.  He’s a multi-time tag team champion, he has established that he can work, develop and maintain a solid feud, and he has one of the most creative gimmicks in WWE at the present time.

As for Daniel Bryan, I think he is one of the best technical wrestlers in the world, but he just doesn’t fit the bill for a WWE World Champion.  Therefore, I think he will remain in and around the mid-card title picture for many years.

I already stated that I think Cody Rhodes and Rey Mysterio will continue their feud for a few months.  Afterward, I am excited to see where Cody takes his gimmick.  Whichever way, I easily see him in contention for the Intercontinental Title shortly after his feud with Mysterio is over.

Daniel Bryan will probably bounce around the Raw mid-card for a while, eventually running out of other Superstars to face.  He’ll be traded to SmackDown and end up in a classic good guy vs. bad guy feud.

This could be the sleeper match of WrestleMania 28.  The technical wrestling that would be on display during this match-up would be some of the best that WWE would have to offer.

Not to mention that you potentially have one of the strongest heel gimmicks in Cody Rhodes matched up against the quintessential good guy, Daniel Bryan.

I see Rhodes entering with the Intercontinental Championship, but I see Bryan walking out with it for the first of what will likely be many times.

WWE Championship: The Miz vs. Randy Orton vs. Jack Swagger vs Triple H

8 of 10

This match-up would be the culmination of several feuds joining into one large feud over the course of several months.  Any pairing of these superstars would work out great.  We’ve already seen Orton and The Miz and, in the past, Orton and Triple H.

But think of the energy that would be seen in a Swagger and Triple H feud.  We could go back to Orton and The Miz, only this time the roles are reversed, with Orton fading back to his heel status and Miz becoming the babyface that he is sure to eventually become.

The potential match-ups are endless and could keep all four men busy from now until WrestleMania 28.  I see The Miz retaining the WWE Title for just a bit longer, eventually dropping it back to Randy Orton

When Orton takes over as champ, I see Swagger getting his shot, but The Miz will stay in the picture.  Orton will continue to come out on top, pushing The Miz and Swagger to feud while Triple H steps in to face off against his former Evolution partner.

Here, Triple H gets the crowd behind him and turns Orton back into a heel.  Meanwhile, the entire crowd supports The Miz against Jack Swagger, making his baby face turn complete.  Triple H becomes the WWE Champion again but has to face the other three at WrestleMania.

Hopefully, Triple H’s days of putting himself over other younger superstars are over.  I’d love to see Jack Swagger get his WrestleMania moment and pull out the win against the other WWE veterans.

World Heavyweight Championship: CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho

9 of 10

Maybe I’m just making this potential match because CM Punk and Chris Jericho are two of my favorite wrestlers of all time.  But think of the possibilities that this match would create, not for what you would see in the ring on the night of WrestleMania 28, but rather in the months leading up to the event.

CM Punk is arguably the best heel in the business today, and I think he’ll eventually be up there among the greatest of all time.  His mic work is phenomenal, he draws heat from the most sinister acts and he just has that stare that makes you think that there’s something wrong with him; that something’s not right upstairs.

Chris Jericho is equally as talented.  He can have the entire arena at his back or he can get them to throw their drinks at him.  His mic work is second to none and his athleticism has never been anything to question.  Pairing him with CM Punk can only end with a positive outcome.

Chris Jericho has flip-flopped from heel to face and back again several times in his career.  He was a heel before he left for his Fozzy/Dancing with the Stars break, but that doesn’t mean that he will return the same way.

I think that the buzz that will surround his return will be enough to put him back on top with the fans and he will return as a good guy again.

I see Y2J returning sometime between SummerSlam and Royal Rumble and I could easily see him winning the Royal Rumble.  He’ll then set his sights on World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, who had been drafted/traded to SmackDown.

What happens from that point on, well, it doesn’t really matter, it would just be one of the best match-ups I could ever hope for.

Undertaker vs. Alberto Del Rio

10 of 10

I know that you are all thinking “what the hell kind of match-up is this?”

But think about it the potential for this match, not only would you get The Undertaker away from the same old matches that he has been placed in for years after years, fighting the same old Superstars time and time again, but you could further inflate Alberto Del Rio’s ego by building up his destiny again.

The Undertaker will come and go from now until WrestleMania.  At this point in his career, the only memorable match he can put on is at WrestleMania.

He’s exhausted just about every other potential gimmick match and match-up to the point that they are all blending together.  He’ll probably get Triple H one more time and possibly Kane again before the Road to WrestleMania begins again.

I would like to see Alberto Del Rio keep trying and failing to obtain the World Heavyweight Championship.  No matter who holds it, somehow Del Rio should try but be unable to get his hands on it.

Then, when Del Rio fails to win the Royal Rumble again and his “destiny” is officially squashed, he tries to get it back by challenging The Undertaker at WrestleMania 28.

Now I know that the chances of The Undertaker losing at WrestleMania are right up there next to zero, but if someone was going to break the streak would WWE want that person to be someone who would be one of the most hated heels in the company for years to come?

They’ve already shown us that Alberto Del Rio is someone who they think is going to be the future of the company, if there’s a possibility for anyone to beat The Undertaker, why not Del Rio?
