Kiefer Sutherland recalls Jerry O’Connell accidentally getting stoned while filming ‘Stand By Me’

Even though Jerry O'Connell found fame as the dorky, pudgy kid in 1986's "Stand By Me," it seems that as a 12-year-old, O'Connell was a bit of a wild child. In an interview on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" this week, O'Connell's "Stand By Me" co-star Kiefer Sutherland revealed that during production on the film, O'Connell experienced one legendary night at a hippie fair.

After a somber discussion about "Stand By Me" star River Phoenix, who died of a drug overdose in 1993, Sutherland recalled some happy stories from the set -- namely one that might make O'Connell blush.

Sutherland said one day O'Connell wanted to go to a fair, so in a moment of rebelliousness, he tied his babysitter to a bannister, sneaked away to the fairgrounds, and bought some cookies. Unfortunately for O'Connell, the fair was actually a hippie fair and the cookies he bought were laced with marijuana.

"They found him crying in the park, lost and completely disoriented, and we had to shut down [production on the film] for two days," said Sutherland. "He was stoned for a little while."

If only O'Connell had such an excuse when it came to his involvement in "Kangaroo Jack."
