The status of this plant in Africa is not completely certain. Fryxell does not mention it occurs in Africa. Exell says the Angolan record was an introduction. Schweinfurth’s plant was collected in 1870 in an area where it was unlikely to be introduced. It certainly has not spread as most introduced plants have done. Vollesen considers it is native in Africa.
