Getúlio Vargas

Getúlio Vargas

Ana Carolina Teixeira Soares

A film about one of the most controversial characters in Brazilian history: Getúlio Vargas, the president who ruled the country the longest. It was produced at the height of the persecution and censorship carried out by the military dictatorship, which was established after the overthrow of Getúlio Vargas’ main political heir, João Goulart. Based on archive material, the director builds a portrait of the life and political history of Vargas, since the 1930s and until his suicide in 1953. She concurrently recreates the social and cultural setting of the time with films and music.

Director Ana Carolina Teixeira Soares will be present at the screening.
