André Heller, Flying Sculptures, 1986

Looking for a new Instagram account to spruce up your feed? You’re in luck. Our chosen Instagram of the Month is the brilliant @mudimakes, which “spans natural, utilitarian and art objects from across the world and throughout history” in the words of Joanna Cresswell. Recently included on the Mudi Makes grid is this all-seeing moon sculpture by André Heller. One of various computer-operated, hot-air balloon pieces made and flown freely by the Austrian artist in the mid 1980s, the colourful sculptures reflected Heller’s theory that “art should come in unconventional guises and be brought to those who might not ordinarily seek it out in more predictable settings” (The New York Times).
