Jake Gyllenhaal is the first volunteer to become the Batman of the new DC Universe

The new DC Universe already has its Man of Steel, but what about its Dark Knight? Because Jake Gyllenhaal wants to take a shot at the role.

Many big names from Hollywood have already donned the black suit of Batman: From Michael Keaton to Ben Affleck, Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson, DC has always trusted more than established names to play the Dark Knight. Another one who meets the requirements is Jake Gyllenhaal, with an extensive resume behind him, and who is now volunteering to become the next Bruce Wayne/Batman.

It will be the first time that two different Batmen coexist, since the one we will see in ‘The Brave & The Bold’, the official Batman film of the DC Universe by James Gunn (directed by The Flash’s Andy Muschietti), won’t be Robert Pattinson, who is return in ‘The Batman 2′.

“Oh, man. That’s a classic. It’s an honor. Speaking of playing roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, to me actually roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, which, to me, actually, when I think about it, I’m going to play Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington, and I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I’m intimidated by that,” the actor acknowledged to Screen Rant. “So that’s the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.”

Gyllenhaal could have already been Batman

In fact, already in 2005, the screenwriter of ‘Batman Begins’, David S. Goyer, was betting on Gyllenhaal to play Batman in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, although they finally opted for Christian Bale. This choice did result in a fantastic job along with other top actors and actresses such as Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, Katie Holmes, Liam Neeson, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, and above all, the very memorable Heath Ledger, who played Joker in ‘The Dark Knight’.

However, at the moment we still do not know who the next Batman will be, but we do know who the Man of Steel will be, since David Corenswet will put on the blue suit of Superman, while Nicholas Hoult will be the villain, Lex Luthor. ‘Superman’ (definitive name) is the film that officially kicks off James Gunn’s DC Universe.
