David Beckham in Rouge et Bleu, 10 years later…

Ten years ago to the day, David Beckham put an end to his career with Paris Saint-Germain. Here is a look back at the last stage of his journey in Rouge et Bleu.

A spectacular arrival

Three years after leaving Europe, David Beckham made his return by signing for Paris Saint-Germain in the winter of 2013. It was enough to make some of his teammates' eyes light up, such as Blaise Matuidi: "I remember the first time I met him at Paris Saint-Germain. I was a bit shy because he was like a celebrity to me. Knowing that I could play with him was something extraordinary, and I will never forget that."

his first match in the parisian colours

What better way for a big player to start at his new club than with a big game? On 24 February 2013, David Beckham replaced Javier Pastore in the 76th minute against Olympique de Marseille and made his first appearance at the Parc des Princes. The Argentinian midfielder said: "That moment has stayed in my head. When I look at the photos and videos, I always remember that I made way for a football legend."

The London-born midfielder was even decisive in setting up Zlatan Ibrahimovic's late goal to seal a 2-0 victory for Paris Saint-Germain.

A warm welcome from the fans

David Beckham received unwavering support from Paris Saint-Germain fans throughout his time at the club from the capital. And he has never forgotten that: "I will always remember what they did for me, the way they treated me and the attitude of the Paris Saint-Germain fans towards me. Even though I was only there for six months, I felt like I was treated as if I had been there for 16 years and was part of this family."

a beautiful end

On 18 May 2013, David Beckham played the last match of his career at the Parc des Princes against Brest. Beckham was captain for only one night, and he had the luxury of providing Blaise Matuidi with a final assist from a corner, enabling his team to win 3-1.

In the 82nd minute, Beckham broke down and wept as he prepared to hang up his boots for good. Ezequiel Lavezzi was preparing himself on the sidelines: "The day he retired, I was the one who came on in his place and messed up his hair a bit," the Argentine said while smiling. Ancelotti's men surrounded him, the Brest players applauded him and the Parc des Princes chanted his name, Paris Saint-Germain were French champions 19 years later, and David Beckham left as a hero: "Thank you Paris!"
