Terminator is one of the most significant science fiction franchises in history. The film series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and created by James Cameron was among the most acclaimed of the ’80s and ’90s. For decades, movies have continued to extend this dystopian story.
Now, Terminator takes on a new life… but in a very different way than we know it. Instead of returning with a new movie starring Schwarzenegger, the franchise comes back with an animated series. It will be aired on Netflix, and the ones in charge of the project are Skydance and Production I.G. This is its trailer:

Terminator: The Anime Series isn’t the first time the franchise has ventured into animation. Previously, there was the series Terminator Salvation: The Machinima Series, but this new series aims to be much more than what we’ve seen. The synopsis goes like this:
“2022: A war has raged for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines. 1997: The AI known as Skynet becomes self-aware and begins its war against humanity. Caught between two times, a soldier is sent back in time to change the fate of humanity.”
In 1997, she arrives to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee, who is working on launching a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet’s imminent attack on humanity. While Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his creation, he is pursued by a relentless future assassin who forever alters the destiny of his three children.
The series is expected to premiere in 2024, and it’s highly likely to extend beyond a single season if it proves successful. Undoubtedly, it’s a very intriguing way to continue a franchise that seemed to have been momentarily stalled.
