British engineer Allen Millyard enjoys building motorcycles with unique engines. Many will remember his famous motorcycle powered by a 8.0 L Viper V10.
Allen’s most recent project involved building a custom 5.0 L (5000 cc/305 ci) V-twin engine from two Pratt & Whitney R1340 aircraft cylinders. The rest of the components for the engine such as the crankshaft, con rods, and aluminum cast crankcase were hand-made by Allen.
The molds for the crankcase alone took Allen a week to build.
The engine has a 5.75″ bore and 5.75″ stroke. It runs twin SU carburetors, twin spark plugs per cylinder and a dry sump oil system with dual pumps and 1 gallon tank. Allen installed a four-speed hand shift gearbox which was geared for 120 mph at 2,000 rpm. The bike’s wheel base is 8 feet and the height is 4 feet to the bars.
