World-renowned goalkeeper Tim Howard played his final game with the Everton Football Club after 10 years on the Liverpool, England-based team. Howard on Sunday completed his 414th appearance wearing Nike Tiempo Legend VI soccer cleats in a shutout against the Premier League’s Norwich City, 3-0.
Prior to taking the field at Goodison Park for the last time, Howard tweeted an open letter thanking fans, teammates and managers.
“I’m going home to America. But after a decade in blue, this is my home. I love all of you, and am so grateful for what the club and everybody affiliated with it has given me,” he wrote.

Howard will return to the United States’ Major League Soccer this summer. He sealed the deal with the Colorado Rapids in March and will be eligible to play for the Rapids when the MLS summer transfer window opens on July 4.
Howard is currently on the United States Men’s National Team. The star goalkeeper had an impressive showing during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Howard started all of the World Cup games and made 16 saves against Belgium on July 1 in the Round of 16, setting a World Cup record.
Howard is expected to participate in the Copa America Centenario with the U.S. national team in June.
