Akshay Kumar has spoken about performing his own stunts on many occasions in the movies but a few years ago, one of those dangerous stunts could have ended the actor’s life. In 2009, when the actor was filming for his film Blue, he hit his head underwater, which resulted in a lot of bleeding in the sea and soon, he found himself surrounded by sharks.

In an interview with The Times of India at the time, Akshay said that he was shooting without oxygen tanks and could not control his body movement underwater. “I hit my head on a sunken ship and got injured 150 feet underwater, and the blood oozed out. I was in a daze. I could’ve been dead. I could’ve been eaten by one of the sharks,” he said.

Akshay recalled that everyone was in a panic after he was hit and soon “there were 40-45 sharks around me.” “Two sharks actually smelled the blood and started coming my way. One of the sharks chased me all the way to the top of the ocean as I swam back to safety,” he shared.

Hollywood’s renowned underwater cinematography specialist Pete Zuccarini, known for his work in Pirates of the Caribbean, and James Bomalick of Indiana Jones were also part of the team while shooting Blue. Akshay said that he was not scared in the moment but later, when he looked back, he realised that anything could have happened. “I realised sharks are not a threat to you until they feel threatened,” he said.

Festive offer

At the time of its release, the makers of Blue claimed that it was the ‘most expensive film ever made’. It also starred Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Zayed Khan, and Katrina Kaif.
