Katharine Hepburn & Spencer Tracy
The two actors met on the set of 'The Woman of The Year’, in 1942 and its protagonists could not have been more different while Katharine Hepburn famously punned, upon introduction, ‘I fear I may be too tall for you, Mr. Tracy.’ To which the film director, George Stevens, quickly retorted, ‘Don’t worry, he’ll soon cut you down to size’. Katharine Hepburn was an eccentric independent while Spencer was down-to-earth. Yet they became the impossible and romantic couple of Hollywood, a passion between a woman who accepted to stand by the man she loved although he would never divorce his wife until his death, in 1967. A secret romance, Katharine did not attend the funeral and remained a ‘rumor’ as Spencer Tracy’s wife called her, until she decided to reveal the affair in her autobiography, in 1991 - making the rumor come true.
It was actually Joe Mankiewicz & he said “Don’t worry Kate, he’ll cut you down to his size.”
