Nickelodeon has ordered a third season of CG-animated series The Smurfs

A new batch of 52 x 11-minute episodes are currently in production, and will air globally on Nick’s linear network and Paramount+ next year. The season is a co-production between Belgium’s Peyo Productions and France’s Ellipse Animation, together with broadcasters Ketnet, RTBF, TF1 and KiKA.

Season three will introduce new characters, including evil wizard Gargamel’s niece and nephew, plus a new village for them to explore. The first two seasons of The Smurfs are available globally on Nickelodeon, Paramount+ and Netflix.

Belgium-based distributor IMPS, which manages rights to the show globally, has also signed a master toy deal with Italy’s Giochi Preziosi that covers all territories other than English-speaking ones. The toyco will initially develop and manufacture a European range of Smurfs playthings and collectibles to roll out next year.
