Gary Neville says Chelsea must seriously consider replacing Petr Cech with Thibaut Courtois next season

Jose Mourinho’s side crashed out of the Champions League on Wednesday night after suffering a 3-1 defeat at home to Atletico Madrid and the 21-year- old Belgian goalkeeper, who is on loan at the Spanish club, was one of the architects of their downfall.

Sky Sports pundit Neville, who commentated on the game, says he was very impressed with Courtois’ display and while there is no doubt that Cech, 31, remains one of the best goalkeepers around – the club may need to drop him and recall the “special” new talent to Stamford Bridge this summer.

jose mourinho ready to give courtois chance

The Daily Star says Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho is planning to recall the highly-rated Belgium keeper who has spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid since joining Chelsea in 2011. The Blues boss believes Courtois is now ready and will let him fight it out with Petr Cech for the No 1 shirt. The Goalkeeper stopped his parental club from proceeding to champions league final stage on wednesday night and Chelsea have also been in contract talks with the 21 year-old although they have been shelved until the end of the season to focus on Atletico’s double bid.

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has revealed that Pep Guardiola asked the club to sign Neymar

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has revealed that Pep Guardiola asked the club to sign Neymar prior to the Bundesliga champions’ move to sign Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund.

The former Barcelona coach was keen to recruit the 21-year-old Brazilian, who is now poised to complete a €28 million move to Camp Nou, but the newly-crowned European champions felt Gotze was a safer option given their previous record with signing Selecao starlets.

“Guardiola had certain ideas to bring in a young Brazilian player [Neymar],” Hoeness said while speaking at an IDG Communications Media AG gathering.

“But we have had a number of bad experiences with young Brazilians in the past. If you consider signing someone who cost €20-30 million or even more, it is a difficult decision. We all know what happened with Breno…

“So we started looking for a similar player and eventually signed Mario Gotze.”

The 20-year-old Gotze will leave Dortmund for Bayern for €37m this summer after agreeing the terms for a transfer earlier in May.

“During the second half of the season, they have always kept in touch with my agent. I’m still always open for a transfer to Everton.”
Fer has made two appearances for the Dutch national side.

Arsenal sweat on Stevan Jovetic deal as Chelsea join Juventus in race to sign the Fiorentina forward.

Arsenal’s bid to sign Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic is becoming increasingly challenging for the north London club. Chelsea have now joined Juventus as additional suitors for the Montenegrin, according to the Daily Express.

Jovetic has found himself to be the centre of attention in the summer transfer market, with Fiorentina president Andre Della-Valle revealing there was “little chance” his star player would remain in Florence.
“The future is in his hands,” continued Della Valle to the Daily Telegraph.

“From my promise last summer, if he wants to look elsewhere he can do it.

The Express say that Jose Mourinho has earmarked Jovetic as a key player to improve Chelsea next season, with Edinson Cavani…

Thomas Vermaelen insists he is still happy at Arsenal and will battle to regain his place in the team.

Thomas Vermaelen insists he is still happy at Arsenal and will battle to regain his place in the team.

Vermaelen, 27, was named Arsenal captain last summer, but he endured a difficult campaign and lost his place in March as Arsene Wenger instead opted for Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

That has led to speculation the defender could move on this summer amid suggestions he could lose his place with the Belgian national team ahead of next year’s World Cup, but he insists he is not seeking an exit.

“I’m happy at Arsenal,” he was quoted as saying by Het Laatste Nieuws.

“The only problem was that I did not play much and that did leave me frustrated, but things can change quickly.
I suddenly found myself on the bench, but I can get myself back into the team again just as suddenly. I will work hard to do that.
“These things happen in professional football.

Arsenal is a big club where there is a lot of competition. It’s not easy playing every game. I’m not losing sleep over it.”

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Swansea centre-back Ashley Williams, who could be sold this summer.

Neymar is Officially Barca player

Brazilian striker Neymar is now officially a Barcelona player after signing a five-year contract with the Catalan club. The 21-year-old put pen to paper on Monday,
just two days after announcing that he had decided to pick the La Liga champions over rivals Real Madrid.

Neither the player himself nor Barca have released financial details of the transfer, however, Brazilian media claim that the Spanish outfit will pay around €30 million to Santos for the youngster’s services.

Neymar’s father, Neymar Silva Santos, said on Monday that a contract was signed establishing the terms of the deal, and a final document will soon be signed in Spain by Santos, his son and Barca.

Santos had accepted an offer from Madrid as well but the allure of the Camp Nou side, who have reportedly been following Neymar since 2010, ultimately proved to be too strong.

“I’m sad to be leaving Santos, but it’s a great honour to be signing with a club like Barcelona and to be able to play with some of the best players in the world,” Neymar said.

The striker also posted a message on his official Twitter and Instagram accounts announcing his departure from the Brazilian club, where he started his professional career in 2009.

He wrote: “Here it ends this wonderful passage with a special club. Thank you for everything. I’ll keep these moments with me my entire life.”

Neymar inspired Santos to their finest run of success since the days of Pele in the 1970s, helping them to the 2010 Brazilian Cup, the 2011 Copa Libertadores and three straight Sao Paulo state championships. He is also the club’s leading scorer in the post-Pele era with 138 goals in 230 matches.

Ashley to lead England for friendly

Chelsea left-back Cole will be making his 102nd appearance for his country and has been given the honour to commemorate receiving his 100th England cap in a game that is part of the Football

“Everyone is behind Ashley in this matter,”

Hodgson said. “We talked about it in the past, his
reluctance to play the captain’s role in front of the

“‘Frank was more than happy to pass on that honour because we all believe he deserves it. He has been a fantastic servant not only to Chelsea and Arsenal but England as well.”
