After listening to Peter Frampton’s “Do You Feel Like We Do?” for the thousandth time, we at Mirth Films started to wonder to ourselves, what other guitarists were able use the talk-box to make long lasting rock and roll hits? If you don’t know what the talk-box is, it is a guitar pedal/device that has a plastic tube that a guitarist can talk through that goes through the amp’s signal to speak which playing notes on the instrument. It is not easy to makes it sound good but there are a bunch of great guitarists who have been able to pull it off. Check out our list of our favorite guitarists known for using their talk box below!

1) Peter Frampton | “Do You Feel Like We Do?”

When it comes to the Talk-Box, Peter Frampton is the king of using the device. Not only is he the originator, Frampton used it through out many of his songs like “Show Me The Way” and of course “Do You Feel Like We Do?” which appeared on Frampton Comes Alive! which happens to be one of the best selling live albums of all time!

2) Joe Walsh | “Rocky Mountain Way”

It is no lie that Joe Walsh one of the most talented rock guitarists. From his time in The Eagles to his solo work, Walsh continued to innovate. In this track, he takes a deep dive with the talk-box with its main riff and in the solo as well!

3) David Gilmour | Pink Floyd – “Pigs (Three Different Ones)”

Pink Floyd is known for their spacey tunes that have made an everlasting impact on musicians all around the world. The group has produced some of the greatest albums of all time with the help of guitarist David Gimour. He uses the talk-box while bending his stings making the sound be able to last for a long period of time.

4) Jerry Cantrell | Alice In Chains –  “Man in the Box”

In this song, guitarist Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains decided to use the talk box differently than musicians in the past. Cantrell used the device to talk out harmonies on his guitar. Songs like this help branded Alice in Chains as one of the most important bands to come out of the Grunge era of rock music.

5) Chuck Garvey| moe. – “Okay Alright”

moe.’s Chuck Garvey used the talk-box this one. Garvey is known for his guitar wizardry and has made a stamp on the jam scene. Listen to “satan” put the talk-box below!
