Mark Ruffalo

Summary

Mark Ruffalo was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He was raised around the local Bahá'í community, of which his father was a member. After high school, Ruffalo moved with his family to San Diego, CA where he began taking acting classes and co-founded the Orpheus Theatre Company for which he wrote and directed several plays.

He moved into motion pictures in the late 1990s with films such as The Dentist (1996), Safe Men (1998) and Ang Lee's Ride with the Devil (1999). These led to his role in the Academy Award-nominated 2000 film You Can Count on Me.

His other films include My Life Without Me with Sarah Polley (2003), In the Cut alongside Meg Ryan (2003), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), We Don't Live Here Anymore (2004) and 2004’s Collateral with Tom Cruise.

More recently, he has played the romantic lead in films like 13 Going on 30 (2004), Just Like Heaven (2005) and Rumor Has It (2005). In 2006 he was nominated for a Tony Award for his role in Awake and Sing at the Belasco Theatre in New York.

Ruffalo is married to French-American actress Sunrise Coigney. They have three children and live together in Los Angeles, California.
