‘Blindsided’ Rebecca Romijn tears into ex John Stamos over memoir: ‘Incredibly shocked’

Rebecca Romijn would like to close this chapter.

The actress finally broke her silence on ex-husband John Stamos’ tell-all memoir, in which he described himself thinking of her as “the Devil.”

“I was very surprised by all of that, incredibly shocked actually,” Romijn, 51, told Entertainment Tonight at the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday.

“I was sort of blindsided by it. But you know, I don’t really want to help him sell his books based on those headlines,” she went on.

“So that’s all I really want to say about it.”

In his new memoir, “If You Would Have Told Me,” the “Fuller House” actor, 60, looked back at his marriage with Romijn, 51. They married in 1998 and announced their separation in 2004.

“I was shattered for way too long, too,” Stamos told People. “I mean, a year, okay, good. But it went on [for] years and years.”

“In my mind back then, she was the Devil, and I just hated her,” he continued. “I couldn’t believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life. Looking back, and I talk about it [in the book], because it’s one of the steps in AA where the fourth step is you lay out all your grievances, everything that people did to you. I go like, ‘None.’”

Stamos said it was “really difficult” to write the chapters about Romijn. “You start thinking, it’s like, ‘Oh, she wasn’t the Devil. Maybe I was as much to blame as her,’” he told the outlet. “It was very public, and that was very painful. I didn’t write much about that, but it’s hard.”

He added that he “started to kind of drink a lot” amid the breakup.

“It was very much the opinion that she dumped me because her career was going great and mine wasn’t, and that’s humiliating,” he said. “I don’t blame her for it. It was just the perception that people took, and maybe they weren’t wrong. She was doing great at that time and I wasn’t.”

Stamos went on to marry Caitlin McHugh in 2018. Romijn, meanwhile, married Jerry O’Connell in 2007. The “Talk” co-host called Stamos’ memoir “pretty crazy” during Andy’s Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show in November 2023, noting it referred to his wife “in a negative manner.

“The craziest thing, the only time it gets awkward is my children are 14 and very — they see what we see now. You know, there’s no hiding, there’s no restricting them. There’s no more keeping things from them,” he said. (The couple are parents of 14-year-old twin girls Charlie and Dolly.)

“It’s funny,” the 49-year-old actor went on. “When that’s all happening a couple of weeks ago, my wife and I know about it. Maybe we whispered to each other about it. There’s like a little bit of an eye roll happening with each other. But it’s pretty crazy when your kids come out for breakfast and they go, ‘Hey, mom, your ex has a book out and called you the devil. What are your thoughts?’ You know. ‘Why did he call you that?’ That’s where it gets interesting. We have no secrets.”

O’Connell also spoke about Stamos’ interview with Howard Stern promoting the memoir.

“My wife doesn’t listen to Stern. I do. So I said, ‘Let’s listen to this.’ And I do have to say, after listening to that interview, any interest of reading the book went away. Those are the only parts we were interested in our house, and we got to them and they talked about,” the “Stand by Me” actor recalled. “I don’t really need to hear about the casting process of famous sitcoms. You know, that’s not something that really interests us.”

“I mean, all that said, I’ve secretly read it,” he told Cohen. “I have a copy that I secretly hide.”
