Why Laura Prepon injected herself with hormones

Laura Prepon learned the hard way to love the skin she’s in.

As the 35-year-old actress told E! News, she “was so desperate to look a certain way,” she wound up injecting herself with hormones. Though the treatment “ultimately just ended up backfiring,” the experience taught her to appreciate her body, just as her “Orange Is the New Black” castmates do with theirs.

“One of the things I love about my show is that these incredibly, sexy, gorgeous women. I mean the self-image on this show is so incredible,” Prepon said in an AOL interview on Wednesday. “Like they embrace every curve, they are just like, ‘yeah, this is my body.’ This is the best-self image.”

Though Prepon will return for the show’s fourth season, which debuts on Netflix in June, the co-author of the new health book, “The Stash Plan,” is dishing diet tips in the meantime.

“Your body wants to be a lean, mean machine,” Prepon noted of the 21-day plan described in the book, which she penned with nutritionist Elizabeth Troy. “If you look at survival of the fittest and things like that. When you do this plan and you really start to jumpstart your body into operating the way it should be, naturally you lose weight.”

“It’s in our DNA, in our genetic mock-up so naturally when your body improves and is functioning optimally, weight loss is a byproduct of it, which is an awesome thing,” she added.
