What better way to enjoy this sunny island then to head down to the beach for a day of fun filled activities on the sandy beach. From 1 to 17 September, Southeast Asia's largest sand festival, Senstosa Sandsation 2017, will be held at Sentosa's Siloso beach. The festival will feature more than 30 intricately-carved and larger-than-life sand sculptures of some five metres in height. Spread over 2,400 square metres of exhibition space on Siloso Beach, guests can journey through three zones showcasing different experiences, from 10am – 9pm daily. Zone 1: Our Sandsational Singapore (Singapore, Ho Say!)What better way to hold a festival in Singapore than the Singapore's Singlish way. In this zone, you will be greeted with 15 three-dimensional intricately-carved sand artworks that depict various facets of Singaporeans’ everyday life, both past and present with audio effects to tell the story behind each artwork. Have fun identifying artworks like Jiak Zua (skiving) or So Wayang (boot-licking/ Pretend in front of superiors) among them to name a few. Zone 2: Sentosa International Sand Sculpting ChampionshipIn Zone 2, 14 sand sculpting masters from around the world will be competing in the Sentosa's International Sand Sculpting Championship to showcase their creativity revolving around the theme "Imagination". They will be competing for cash prizes worth more than S$12,000. Among the renowned participants of the championship are Sudarsan Pattnaik from India, David Enguerrand from Belgium, Leonardo Ugolini from Italy, Sergio Ramirez from Spain, Borecki Wiaczeslaw from Poland, Calixto Molina from Mexico, Aleksei Shchitov from Russia, Bob Atisso from Togo, among others. Zone 3: Shifting Sand 2Leading the team of sand sculptors for Sentosa Sandsation 2017 is JOOheng Tan, an internationally- acclaimed Singapore sand artist, whose works have been showcased in over 70 cities across more than 20 countries. This zone is set up to commemorate the technique pioneered by JOOheng to transform ordinary sand into incredible artworks through a series of interactive sand art pieces. He staged his first solo exhibition showcasing this technique in Sentosa's Palawan Beach back in 2010. Besides the Sentosa Sandsation Festival, there are still other fun-filled family activities happening this September at the State of Fun!
