Ashley Tisdale has had a whirlwind romance with her husband, Christopher French.

The High School Musical cast member and the musician got engaged in 2013 atop the Empire State Building after eight months of dating. Tisdale and French wed the following year in an intimate ceremony, in which former costar Vanessa Hudgens was a bridesmaid.

Nearly a decade into their marriage, the couple have collaborated on music, worked together on the wellness brand Frenshe and welcomed a daughter, Jupiter. Most recently, in March 2024, Tisdale and French announced that they are expecting their second child.

In 2022, Tisdale announced her return to acting with the upcoming CBS comedy Brutally Honest — loosely inspired by how her connection with French evolved after having a child.

“The last couple years have just been so creative and inspiring,” she told PEOPLE. “My daughter inspires so much of everything going on in my life. And my relationship truly inspired this show, so I am just so excited."

So who is Ashley Tisdale’s husband? Here’s everything to know about Christopher French and his relationship with the actress.

Tisdale and French first stepped out as a couple in Los Angeles in December 2012.

After keeping their relationship under wraps for a few months, the actress and musician attended a premiere event for the comedy crime film Spring Breakers in March 2013.

Around this time, Tisdale was promoting her upcoming movie Scary Movie 5 when she opened up to host Ryan Seacrest about why her romance with French was different than previous experiences.

“I've obviously been in long relationships in the past. But I think because of knowing what I wanted, I wouldn't have gone into a relationship if it wasn't what I wanted," she said On Air With Ryan Seacrest.

“I was like, ‘OK this is the guy,’ and he knew the same thing. It doesn’t get any better. I just can’t explain it,” Tisdale added.

Their connection continued to develop over the next several months, and French was her plus-one at the parody movie's red carpet premiere. The new couple was also spotted during other Hollywood outings, including at the Kids' Choice Awards.

In an Instagram post commemorating their sixth wedding anniversary in 2020, Tisdale reflected on her emotions when they started dating.

“I remember having so much fear the minute we got together because I couldn’t believe how good you treated me,” she wrote. “I had never been treated that way. But I let go and trusted my heart and 8 months later we were a couple of crazy kids engaged.”

French went on to record and tour with the alternative rock bands The Why Game and Annie Automatic — the latter of which he was the lead singer when he met Tisdale.

After attending the Musician’s Institute for Recording in L.A., he graduated from Berklee College of Music for Film Scoring & Orchestration. Since then, he’s expanded his portfolio and scored music for various shows, movies and documentaries.

He has worked as a composer on the animated DC Comics series Harley Quinn, Prime Video's anthology Modern Love, the feature film Acidman and HBO's docuseries On Tour with Asperger's Are Us.

On Sept. 8, 2014, Tisdale and French tied the knot, PEOPLE confirmed.

“Best day of my life! Introducing Mr and Mrs French Sept 8, 2014,” the actress announced on Instagram alongside a wedding photo of her and the musician arm-in-arm.

Their nuptials were held at the Villa Sevillano in Santa Barbara, California, and former costar Hudgens was part of her bridal party. The bohemian-style outdoor wedding occurred on a particularly meaningful day for Tisdale and French.

“The 8th was our anniversary, so I wanted to land on an 8th, and thankfully it landed on a Monday in September,” she said On Air with Ryan Seacrest, adding that she also hoped the weekday event would help "protect" the privacy of their intimate celebration.

Shortly after, she shared with CBS News she was "very excited" and "happy" after getting married. The Hellcats star revealed that taking the next step in their relationship didn't feel different because "I married my best friend."

"It felt like I was married before or something — I guess because we act that way. It definitely feels amazing," she said. "This relationship was definitely different from any other relationship I ever had. ... Nothing is forced. It's the best feeling ever."

On March 23, 2021, Tisdale and French welcomed their daughter, Jupiter Iris French.

The actress announced the news on Instagram with a black-and-white photo of them holding their baby’s hand. “Jupiter Iris French arrived earth side 3.23.21. ✨,” she captioned it.

Tisdale and French first revealed they were expecting in September 2020 when they posted photos of her bump. The following month, the couple held a sex reveal party and learned they were having a girl.

"I cried I was so happy," she wrote on Instagram at the time.

Since giving birth, the "It's Alright, It's OK" singer has shared glimpses of her family on social media, including what it's been like watching Jupiter grow.

"She definitely looks like my husband, but definitely is my personality," she told PEOPLE in 2023. "Just her expressions and just how she says things and it's just those little tiny things."

Soon, Jupiter will become a big sister. In March 2024, the couple announced that they're expecting their second child when Tisdale showed off her baby bump in an Instagram post.

"We can’t wait to meet you 💫," she captioned the picture.

The same year Tisdale and French got engaged, the pair collaborated on the single "You're Always Here," which was dedicated to her late grandfather, Arnold, who died that September.

She opened up to MTV about wanting "everyone to know who he was and how special he was to me" and how the writing process unfolded. Tisdale would go on walks and return with notes as if the two had had a conversation and French started writing chords.

"We just decided to make a song out of what I was going through; it organically happened," she said. "[My grandfather] always loved my music and loved when I would sing."

Although the Clipped actress admitted that it's usually "hard" for her to share "super personal" matters, she felt supported by her husband. "He really gets me on a whole other level and this subject and it being so personal; he would be the only one to do it," she added.

Several years later, in 2016, Tisdale and French showed off their musical chemistry via duets on YouTube. The couple covered their favorite songs for Tisdale's music session series, including “Still Into You” by Paramore, "Issues" by Julia Michaels and "Toxic" by Britney Spears.

When French met Tisdale, he hadn't watched High School Musical, the 2006 Disney Channel Original Movie that launched the actress into stardom. In fact, he watched the film and its sequels for the first time in 2019 — and Tisdale documented the events on her Instagram Story.

“Does anybody know what this is?” Tisdale teased alongside a clip from High School Musical 2. “I’m subjecting my husband to watch it. He’s never seen any of them."

Throughout his private watch party, she continued to joke with him on social media, asking, “Would you have dated me?” and “Sharpay not your type babe?”

As for her showing Jupiter her past acting roles, Tisdale revealed to PEOPLE that it's not at the top of the list for them. "It feels like a different lifetime!" she said.
