Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem are said to be engaged

After rumours have been circulating for months about actor Javier Bardem, 39, popping the question to his girlfriend Penelope Cruz, 34, it looks like it's finally happened, according to British website mailonsunday.co.uk.

“Both Penelope and Javier are very excited about their future together,” says a friend close to the couple. “It has been rumoured that Javier has already proposed but he hasn't asked Penelope to marry him yet.”

He plans to ask her when they are away on vacation next month, before they both move to England, where Penelope will be shooting her next film, Nine.

Penelope, also know as the face of L'Oreal Cosmetics, has known Javier for 16 years, when they met on the set of her 1992 debut film, Jamon Jamon. But it was only last year that they were seen as a couple after co-starring in Woody Allen's upcoming film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, where they play a dysfunctional couple.

It's no secret that Penelope has been wanting to start a family for some time now. “They are amazingly happy together and we're all waiting for the news that they are getting married,” adds my source.
