The first trailer for the Robert Mapplethorpe biopic has been released. The film, starring Matt Smith as the famed photographer, tells the story of “Mapplethorpe’s life from moments before he and Patti Smith moved into the famed Chelsea hotel, home to a world of bohemian chic,” according to a press release. Mapplethorpe was directed by Ondi Timoner. It hits theaters March 1, 2019. Zosia Mamet had originally been tipped to play Patti Smith, but was dropped due to scheduling conflicts.
