The technology behind our light at Silva is quite simple. Instead of focusing solely on the technical, we start with the human eye to create a beam of light that is adapted to how the eye works in the dark.
It gives you optimal light based on your activity. This is what we call Silva Intelligent Light and it is in all our headlamps.
All Silva headlamps are designed to give you a wider perspective seen from several aspects. The optics in the headlamps are designed to avoid tunnel vision and sharp contrasts through a smoother transition between light and dark.
All this results in less head movement and a clear view of possible obstacles both at short and long distances, which gives better balance and greater security and helps you maximize speed and perform better.
We believe that the best headlamp for you is the one that gives you the best conditions in the dark, that suits your activity and that has just enough burning time. Which headlamp it is therefore depends on exactly your needs, activity and wishes.
To measure lumens, we use the most reliable method available today: true lumens (True Lumen according to ANSI/NEMA FL1 flaslight basic performance standard). The measured lumen value is measured 30 seconds after the lamp is switched on, this is to ensure that the lamp complies with the expectations you have of it in the dark.
There is no global measurement scale for lumens. Lumens measure power, but don't give you all the information you need when choosing a headlamp. We think you should also take into account the weight and size of the lamp and also the burning time of the battery. Last, but not least, you should also think about the type of activity you will use the lamp for, because different activities require different amounts of lumens.
Silva Intelligent Light is a double light beam found in all Silva headlamps. The unique combination of focused distance light that shines far and wide-angle light that illuminates close to you gives rise to less head movement and a clear view of possible obstacles both at short and far distances, which provides better balance and greater security and helps you maximize speed and performance better.
Our smart lighting technology Silva Flow Light is available in all multi-lamps. It optimizes the light one step further and adapts the light image to your activity. By angling the light downwards, you get a wider light pattern that is adapted for slower activities. When you instead angle the headlamp forward/upwards, the light reaches further and gives you a perfect light picture for activities at a high pace.

In addition to the white light, some headlamp models (including Explore and Scout ) also have a red light that preserves your night vision and a third orange light. This allows you to see contours on the map while maintaining night vision, which is important when you e.g. night sailing or orienteering in the dark.
The red light is optimal for preserving your night vision.
Use the orange light to read the map in the dark, it reduces reflections.
The standard white light provides a clear light with strong contrasts.
A fixed and stable light is perfect for activities such as running and hiking, but if you want a headlamp for many different activities, you should choose one of our models with flexible light (Silva Flow Light) which adapts the light pattern to your activity.
Move the headlamp away from your head and attach it at the level of your chest. This placement is easier on the eye and gives you better night vision in rain and snow.
