Joachim Low has named a vastly experienced squad for Euro 2020, handing international recalls to World Cup winners Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels, who had not played for Germany in more than two years before this summer.

Muller and Hummels, veterans of the 2014 World Cup under Low, were just two of the experienced players exiled by their manager after Germany’s disappointing 2018 World Cup exit and dismal Nations League campaign later that year.

Low has also included the Monaco striker Kevin Volland, who has not played for Germany since 2016, as well as the Bayern Munich teenager Jamal Musiala.

Germany have been drawn in the incredibly challenging Group F for this summer’s tournament, alongside Hungary, reigning European champions Portugal and reigning world champions France.

Germany lost their opening group game 1-0 to France. They then beat Portugal 4-2 before drawing 2-2 with Hungary to finish Group F in second place.

They will play England in the last 16 on Tuesday, June 29.

Who is their key player?

The final team in the so-called group of death, the Germans will hoping to prove their disappointing showing at the last World Cup was a mere blip.

Of all the teams at the tournament, it is perhaps hardest to pick a key player for a country attempting to recapture the glory days of 2014.

Muller and Hummels have been recalled despite their international careers looking to be over after the 2018 World Cup while Timo Werner will be hoping he can prove his worth after a disappointing first season at Chelsea that still concluded with a Champions League winners’ medal.

What is the full squad?
