Marcos Rojo has finalised his transfer from Manchester United to Boca Juniors, reports Laurie Whitwell.

The 30-year-old defender had been in Argentina ahead of the move and has now ended his seven-year stay at Old Trafford.

What are the numbers behind the deal?

The move is a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee. Rojo had only six months left on his deal at United, meaning he was free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement from clubs outside the UK.

Boca are understood to have offered Rojo a three-year contract.

Was there any interest from elsewhere?

Newcastle made an enquiry towards the end of last year and before Christmas, the Argentine was keen to stay in England.

But Boca’s offer ultimately proved to be too appealing.

What did Marcos Rojo achieve at United?

Rojo played 122 times for United after signing a £16 million deal from Sporting Lisbon, following an impressive display at the 2014 World Cup with Argentina.

During his time at United, he won the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and the Europa League.

Has he recently played for United on a regular basis?

He has not featured since coming on as a late substitute against Brighton & Hove Albion in November 2019. Rojo spent the second half of last season on loan at Estudiantes.

But he was included in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Premier League squad this season.
