Nicotiana rustica, commonly called Aztec tobacco, mapacho, sacred tobacco, wild tobacco, thuoc lao, mahorka, as well as other names, is a very strong variety of tobacco with up to 9 times more nicotine than N. tabacum cultivars.  Nicotiana Rustica is a plant with the nightshade family of Solanaceae.  Nicotiana rustica is Native to North and South America.  The plant grows upright and bushy with broad sticky leaves and short yellow trumpet shaped flowers.  It grows about 2-5 feet high, which is much shorter than most N. tabacum cultivars. USDA Hardiness Zones 3-11.

Nicotiana rustica seeds should be sprinkled across the surface of a well draining soil mix and pressed in lightly. Mist the seeds to avoid displacement during watering due to their small size. Keep temperatures between 70-75°F and keep moist, but not soaking wet.  Seeds should begin germinating within 1-3 weeks. Small seedlings can be transplanted once established. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
