Watch: Chinese highway with lasers for sleepy drivers but is it safe?
We are all familiar with long highway driving, where you keep going for long stretches without having to make any major manoeuvres. This eventually leads to fatigue and drowsiness which is classified as a leading cause for highway accidents. In a viral video which was reportedly taken in China, the authorities have installed what are called ‘anti-fatigue laser lights’ to keep presumably drowsy people attentive at night and avoid any dangerous situations or accidents.
Take a look at the video below.

As we can see, the system throws out a multi-colour laser light show above the cars driving down the highway. The lasers are positioned to be away from a driver’s eye level, hence they are safe and do not blind them. However, we assume that encountering such a system out on the highway at night, may mildly startle a driver and encourage them to slow down and take a closer look or get puzzled.

The same fundamental is used behind the reflective mile markers and mid-strips that we come across when driving at night on a highway. Currently, several countries including China are known to feature such systems on their highways.
