Paz Vega has been cast of Paul W.S. Anderson‘s historical drama “Pompeii” opposite Kit Harington, Kiefer Sutherland and Emily Browning.

“Pompeii” is being produced by Constantin Film and Impact Films with Jeremy Bolt, Anderson, Don Carmody and Robert Kulzer producing.

“Pompeii” is set in the days leading up to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79 and tells the tale of an enslaved gladiator — played by Harington — who faces the tyrant (Sutherland) who years before murdered his family and now threatens to steal his lover (Browning). Jared Harris, Carrie-Anne Moss and Joe Pingue round out the cast.

Vega will star as Strigana, the dark and mysterious high priestess of ancient Pompeii.

Martin Moszkowicz, Peter Schlessel and Jon Brown are exec producing. Script was written by the team of Lee Batchler and Janet Scott Batchler, Michael Robert Johnson and Julian Fellowes.

Lionsgate International will oversee international sales. FilmDistrict announced on April 9 that it had acquired U.S. distribution rights  and set Feb. 28, 2014 release date for “Pompeii” through Sony’s TriStar.
