CANNES — Emily Watson (“Anna Karenina”) and David Thewlis (“The Fifth Estate”) have joined the cast of Working Title Films’ “The Theory of Everything,” which centers on the relationship between physicist Stephen Hawking and Jane Wilde, the arts student he fell in love with whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960s.

The pic is produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, and Lisa Bruce and Anthony McCarten. The original screenplay was written by McCarten and is inspired by Jane Hawking’s memoir, “Traveling to Infinity: My Life With Stephen.” Universal Pictures Intl. will distribute the film internationally.

Pic stars Eddie Redmayne (“Les Miserables”) and Felicity Jones (“The Invisible Woman,” “Breathe In”). The cast also includes Charlie Cox (“Boardwalk Empire”), Simon McBurney (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”), Maxine Peake (“The Village”) and Harry Lloyd (“Game of Thrones”). Helmer James Marsh’s latest feature, “Shadow Dancer,” starring Clive Owen and Andrea Riseborough, was released last year.

Crew on “The Theory of Everything” include director of photography Benoit Delhomme, production designer JP Kelly, hair and make-up designer Jan Sewell, costume designer Steven Noble and editor Jinx Godfrey.
