JAKARTA - Liverpool on Tuesday night officially recruited legendary Brazilian goalkeeper Claudio Taffarel into the club's coaching staff.

Although recruited by Liverpool, Taffarel will continue to concurrently with his duties as a goalkeeper coach for the Brazilian national team whenever the Selecao competes in international competitions.

Liverpool's official website states, quoted by Antara, that Taffarel has received a work permit from the British government and will become the goalkeeping coach of the Premier League club with John Achtenberg and Jack Robinson.

Jurgen Klopp admitted that Taffarel's arrival could not be separated from his consultation with goalkeeper Alisson Becker who felt Taffarel's cold hand in the Brazilian national team.

He also admitted that the recruitment of Taffarel could not be separated from his desire to build a philosophy of a typical goalkeeping pattern.

"We want to build our own philosophy in the goalkeeping department, because we agree that the position has its own game, that's why we take a different approach," Klopp was quoted as saying by Liverpool's official website.

"We spoke with Ali (Alisson) because two of the best goalkeepers in the world are from Brazil and found the solution to sign Taffarel who is a great addition to our coaching staff.

"We really want to be a steady goalkeeping axis in world football, that's why we brought in a third, very experienced goalkeeper coach," he said.

Taffarel retired in 2003 with a record of 101 appearances for Brazil and the 1994 World Cup title.

He then briefly served as goalkeeping coach for Galatasaray and served as interim manager twice in 2014 and 2015 at the Turkish club before joining the Brazilian national team.
