Furoquinoline Alkaloids and Methoxyflavones from the Stem Bark of Melicope madagascariensis (Baker) T.G. HartleyMelicope madagascariensis (Rutaceae) is an endemic plant species of Madagascar that was first classified as a member of the genus Euodia J. R. & G. Forst (Rutaceae) under the scientific name Euodia madagascariensis Baker. Based on morphological characteristics, Thomas Gordon Hartley taxonomically revised E. madagascariensis Baker to be M. madagascariensis (Baker) T.G. Hartley. Chemotaxonomical studies have long been used to help the identification and confirmation of taxonomical classification of plant species and botanicals. Aiming to find more evidences to support the taxonomical revision performed on E. madagascariensis, we carried out phytochemical investigation of two samples of the plant. Fractionation of the ethanol extracts prepared from two stem bark samples of M. madagascariensis (Baker) T.G. Hartley led to the isolation of seven known furoquinoline alkaloids 1-7 and two known methoxyflavones 8 and 9. The presence of furoquinoline alkaloids and methoxyflavones in the title...

Antimicrobial Furoquinoline Alkaloids from Vepris lecomteana (Pierre) Cheek & T. Heller (Rutaceae)2017 •
Three new prenylated furoquinoline alkaloids named lecomtequinoline A (), B (), and C (), together with the known compounds anhydroevoxine (), evoxine (), dictamnine (), methylflindersine (), evoxanthine (), hesperidin, lupeol, -sitosterol, stigmasterol, -sitosterol-3---d-glucopyranoside, stearic acid, and myristyl alcohol, were isolated by bioassay-guided fractionation of the methanolic extracts of leaves and stem of . The structures of compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods (NMR, MS, UV, and IR) and by comparison with previously reported data. Crude extracts of leaves and stem displayed high antimicrobial activity, with Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) (values of 10.1-16.5 and 10.2-20.5 µg/mL, respectively, against , , , , and , while compounds - showed values ranging from 11.1 to 18.7 µg/mL or were inactive, suggesting synergistic effect. The extracts may find application in crude drug preparations in Western Africa where is endemic, subject to negative toxicity...

Furoquinoline alkaloids of Ertela ( Monnieria) trifolia (L.) Kuntze from the Suriname rainforest2008 •
7-(2’-Hydroxy-3’-chloroprenyloxy)-4,8-dimethoxyfuroquinoline (1) and 6-(2’-hydroxy-3’-chloroprenyloxy)-4,7-dimethoxyfuroquinoline (2), together with ten known compounds, have been isolated from the aerial parts of Ertela (Monnieria) trifolia (L.) Kuntze. All the isolates were tested for antiproliferative activity against the A2780 human ovarian cancer cell line.

Isolation and characterization of betulinic acid from the stem bark of Feretia canthioides Hiern and its antimalarial potentialActa poloniae pharmaceutica
Search for new pharmacophore as antimalarial agent: synthesis and antimalarial activity of some 2(3H)-furanones bearing quinoline moietyA series of substituted 3-[(substituted-2-chloroquinolin-3-yl)methylene]-5-(substituted-phenyl)-furan-2(3H)-ones (4a-p) have been synthesized and evaluated for their in vitro antimalarial activity against P. falciparum. The title compounds were synthesized by condensing 3-(substituted-benzoyl)propionic acids (3a-d) with substituted 2-chloroquinoline-3-carbaldehydes (2a-d) following modified Perkin's reaction. Compounds 3-[2-chloro-6-methylquinolin-3-yl)methylene]-5-(2,4-dimethyl-phenyl)-furan-2(3H)-one (4n) and 3-[2-chloro-6-methoxyquinolin-3-yl)methylene]-5-(2,4-dimethyl-phenyl)-furan-2(3H)-one (4p) showed promising antimalarial activity with MIC of 10 microg/mL.
