Product Description

It's rare that a group can truly rock today's world, but the arrival of "Mothership," the first-ever comprehensive Led Zeppelin compilation, qualifies. Produced by Jimmy Page and mixed by Kevin Shirley, "Mothership's" 24 monolithic tracks were selected and sequenced by the band, who also oversaw the painstaking remastering. Spanning their epic career, the unprecedented collection pulls immortal songs from all eight of the band's classic studio albums, one of the 20th century's most enduring bodies of musical work. The Deluxe 2CD/1DVD edition includes a DVD with the Premiere Version of the Led Zeppelin DVD, which was shown in theaters

For years, as playlists and multidisc players put Led Zeppelin tracks into a mix, there was a perpetual need to adjust the volume when Zep came on. Their tunes languished in the haze of substandard remastering--until now, at least for the 24 tracks on Mothership and the final fullness of the new Song Remains the Same reissue. For its part, Mothership's crisper, warmer audio owes its heft to the troika of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, who helped oversee the mastering, bringing out untold shades even in the throes of "Heartbreaker" and the sinews of "No Quarter." It's an impressive sonic leap. Where tinny high-ends and muffled lows used to co-exist, fatter and louder depths prevail. It's ever more astonishing that Zep got on with just four blokes. You can quibble with the 24 tracks here (where's "The Ocean"?), but the band picked each track here, from the stone-cold locks ("Communication Breakdown" and "Stairway to Heaven," no, duh) to the robust throb of "When the Levee Breaks." As for "The Ocean," you can find that in fantastically full form, along with five other gems on the newly remastered Song Remains the Same, which shows up for 2007's holiday season on DVD, too. Only rarely have four lads from England made so memorable an auditory and visual blast. --Andrew Bartlett

Great Record To Have

Great Record To Have
I am a big Led Zeppelin fan who recently got into vinyl. However, trying to find all of their albums on vinyl, in good condition is hard. They are either in great shape and too expensive, or in bad shape.I knew they released a new greatest hits album recently and said to myself "maybe they put it out on vinyl", and they did.The upsides: 180 gram vinyl. Its heavy, its durable, and it less prone to "wear and tear". Has all their greatest hits from just about every album. The art work on the inside is just awesome. The LP sleeves are really neat. That is something I love about vinyl (besides the superior sound quality), its got lots of neat stuff in it, and this is no different. It came packed very well, and the records were even packed up in a dust cover made of plastic (rather than just stuck in a sleeve)Downside: It has only one down side, it misses A LOT of great songs from Led Zeppelin III and Physical Graffiti. However, it is a greatest hits album, and I do not think Custard Pie or The Rover ever made it as a "greatest hit" in the eyes of most teenagers who would buy this album (CD really). With that said, it was great to find a 4 LP collection of almost every album they ever had. It has the best songs from I, II, III, IV, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti, and even their last few albums (Coda, In Through The Out Door, Presence). If you are looking for some great Zeppelin vinyl, but do not want to search around for almost impossible to find LPs this is what you want.I will post some pictures of the art work and records themselves when I get the chance so you can see what comes with it.

I am fairly new to listening to music on vinyl, therefore on the technical side I cannot really provide a proper feedback. As expected, the records sound great. Now, I did noticed that the vocals are not as powerful as the instruments. I read it somewhere that this is due to the remastering of the tracks, and on the original recordings the vocals were more predominant. Tell you the truth, this didn't bothered me that much, as it sounded more like live music, but cleaner, as if you were listening while the band is playing next to you in a studio. It is fantastic. Mind you, this is a 24 tracks selection out of the entire Led Zeppelin discography, not the entire thing, and some might argue that some crucial pieces of music are missing. But even so, it still is great value for your money. Even the packaging alone would worth half the money. It is just brilliant. A thick black box with a simple elegant design, it is pure eyecandy. Anyways, as collecting vinyl records is a rather expensive hobby, this product is more than an agreeable compromise if you want to listen to Led Zeppelin but you cannot afford the buy all of they're albums. Also, it is more accessible in terms of availability.

I do have 2 nuisances, but none with the product, but instead with the service. First of all, with the order confirmation I have received a tracking number, which only works as long as the package is on US soil. Now, I live in Romania. I had no means whatsoever to track my purchase, and, as long as I give a benefit of a doubt for the foreign postal and courier services, I know have little trust when it comes to the local services. The second annoyance was with the way my purchase was packed. Instead of a fancy packaging specially designed for LP's (of which amazon has dedicated an entire page of how awesome it is) I've got a big box. In the box was my pack of records, right down on the bottom. Over it was some of that protective blanket or what, the one with big air balloons. So as long as the box was not damaged on the bottom or at one of its sides, my product had noting to worry about.

What’s not to like about this?

Do not base your decision on whether to buy this album on whether you have the songs on some other album. The sound quality of the songs on Mothership is so much better than any other album of Zeppelin you may own that you should add this album to your collection. I don't know if it is the new technology available or if the band members spent more time on the remasters, but each song on Mothership sounds much better than what I have on their studio album versions or on their previous remastered collections. I feel bad for the reviewers who are not getting the CD because they have the songs in other forms. Those poor guys are thinking that the same old songs are just being burned to on a new CD. Their loss. I also feel bad for the people who just get the MP3 version of this album. You lose out on the improvement in sound quality if you don't get the actual CD of Mothership. You only buy Led Zeppelin because they sound great, so you should get the album that makes them sound the greatest.

Nearly all the really good Led Zeppelin stuff is in this collection. I remember when they used to say album instead of collection. Anyway most all of the stuff you want to hear when you are listening to Zeppelin is in this one. It's great music. After listening to all the new age digitized and nearly perfect music sounds these days you'll hear some problems on this collection. A few of the songs sound muffled. Even though they used analog stuff and that makes purer sound it's all up to the guy on the mixer board to make that magic. Some of the tunes sound muted. Some of the vocals and music just don't sound quite right. But they are older and that's the way it goes. It's still worth the money and unless you're a stickler on sound like me you won't notice it as much as I did. And hey, I still liked it anyway.

So you are thinking to yourself: I have everyone of these Led Zep songs. Got the box sets, the "other" greatest hits cd. Why should I plunk down $18 to buy the same old tunes in yet another repackaged cd? Because it is worth it based on the total overall package. The inner booklet is crammed with informative tidbits and pics plus a song by song description of when it was released, etc. Sound and mix is so outstanding, its like hearing these songs for the "first" time. They could have used Fool In The Rain and Dancing Days instead of Nobody's Fault But Mine and Achilles Last Stand, but that's my personal choice. Highly recommended!!!! Especially if you are one of the few Earthlings who has never heard of Led Zep, this would be a great intro into the mystical, magical and musical world of Plant, Page, Jones and Bonham.

I have been a Led Zeppelin fan for a long time, so the release of a new Zep product always sparks my interest. This particular package interested me because of the vintage film footage on the DVD. Very nice, especially for those of us who were never able to catch the band during their peak (1973-77) years. The re-mastered audio tracks are exceptional. Song selection would of been difficult-but not to worry if your favorite track was left off this CD - Jimmy Page (he learned well from the late great Peter Grant) is an exceptional marketer, so I predict there will be more "special packages" in the future. I bought my Zep CD/DVD (from Amazon of course) - and I really enjoy all of it. Even if you own previous released Zep material, I encourage you to check out this new Led Zeppelin product. A great value for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cofanetto completo, nuovo e originale, 2 CD + DVD, buona qualità di registrazione audio
Reviewed in Italy on August 26, 2020
