Xavi focused on Euro 2012 Championships

Euro 2012 participants will be sad to learn that Xavi will be participating in the tournament.

Despite reports to the contrary over the past two weeks, FC Barcelona star and Spanish international Xavi Hernandez has no plans to hang up his international boots anytime soon.  This comes as fantastic news to fans of either team, especially to those who are fans of both teams.

Xavi has been capped 97 times by la roja and was a key factor in the Spanish victory in the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 European Championships.  In the 2008 Euro's, Xavi was voted the player of the tournament by UEFA.  His through-ball that setup Fernando Torres' winning goal in the 1-0 victory in the final over Germany was simply amazing. Playing for Spain with fellow Barca players like Andres Iniesta, David Villa, Pedro, and Sergio Busquets amongst others gives Xavi an ability to make the switch from club to country seamlessly and excel for both teams.

Xavi was the 5th place finisher in the 2008 Ballon d'Or voting, the 3rd place finisher in the 2009 Ballon d'Or voting, and is a top candidate win the award this year, along with Iniesta.  Despite being 30 years old and dealing with a nagging achilles injury, Xavi's combination of experience and ability make him a key player in Spain's 2012 Euro qualification campaign.  Xavi has made it clear he is not going anywhere.

I want to deny that I want to leave the Spanish national team," he told Marca. "I want to go to the European Championship finals (2012) and to the World Cup in Brazil (2014)."

"I don't know where all this has come from. I want to play against Portugal and in every game, even friendlies. I'm excited about playing for the national team.

"I get the feeling that my commitment is continually being doubted when I've never given any reason for that. Every time I have a press conference I have to give explanations."
