RFK Stadium to host a Copa Centroamericana triple header on September 3

The Copa Centroamericana will be held in the United States for the first time, with RFK Stadium hosting a triple header on Wednesday, September 3. The day will begin with Costa Rica versus Nicaragua at 5:00 PM, followed by Honduras versus Belize at 7:00 PM, and capped off with El Salvador versus Guatemala at 9:00 PM. In addition to being able to see Andy Najar, it seems like this is a good way to build off of the success of the World Cup for both the teams participating as well as for soccer in the nation's capital.

This edition of the Copa Centroamericana is an especially big deal. In addition to the fact that the top five teams in the tournament will qualify for the 2015 Gold Cup, the winner of this tournament will qualify for the 2016 Copa America Centenario, along with the already qualified Mexico and United States, the winner of the 2014 Caribbean Cup, and the winner and runner-up of a four team tournament of the top Gold Cup finishers not yet qualified. Thus, expect all of these teams to bring their best players: For Costa Rica and Honduras, that likely means their World Cup teams. The fifth place game, third place game, and finals will all be held in Los Angeles on September 13.
