Harris finished his high school career with numerous awards including Washington Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Washington Player of the Year. Harris played for the University of Virginia where he earned All-ACC honors his last 2 seasons and was named ACC Tournament MVP his senior year. He capped off his senior season by leading the team to an ACC Conference Championship and an NCAA Sweet Sixteen run. In his senior year at Virginia, he was one of five Division I Men's Basketball players to be named to the Allstate Good Works Team, which recognizes players for their community service and work to improve the lives of others.
In the 2014 NBA draft, Harris was selected 33rd overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. In his rookie season, Joe was a part of the Cavaliers 2015 NBA Finals run. In the 2016 off-season, Harris signed with the Brooklyn Nets. Harris had a breakout season in 2018, where he averaged career-bests in almost every category. He finished the season ranking in the top 20 in 3-point shooting percentage for all NBA players. Harris won the NBA Three-Point Contest during 2019’s All-Star weekend.
In July 2019, Harris traveled to Tanzania with H4H teammates Malcolm Brogdon and Justin Anderson to witness the opening of the first Hoops2O well, which brought the gift of clean water to communities in need.
