Everyone loves the 1967-68 Ford Mustang Fastback and a restomod specialist has just unveiled its latest and greatest take on this American classic. Unlike some other restomods we’ve seen over the years, this one doesn’t ruin the original looks but does thoroughly update and improve the key components needed to make it feel like a new car.

The car is known as the Velocity Mustang Fastback and has been brought to life by Velocity Modern Classics. To build it, the company completely disassembled the original car and has installed a new Mustang SPEC chassis built by Roadster Shop. This new chassis includes rack-and-pinion power steering, front sway bars, and independent front suspension to make it much more suitable to the modern world.

Next, the shop has fitted four-link rear suspension and Fox coilovers at the front and rear. The Mustang also has a 9-inch rear axle with a 3.73 gear ratio and is rolling on a set of 17-inch alloy wheels complete with 255/45 ZR17 Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02 tires. The exterior of the Mustang is finished in BASF Glasurit paint, has a vented hood with marker lights, comes complete with various chrome accents, and benefits from new LED headlights and LED taillights.

Then we get to the engine. Gone is the standard mill and in its place sits Ford’s Coyote 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 with 460 hp and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque. This grunt is transmitted to the pavement through either a 10-speed automatic transmission or a T-56 six-speed manual depending on the customer’s preference. A Borla exhaust nicely complements the V8 while braking performance comes from Baer four-piston calipers and 11-inch rotors.

The interior of the Velocity Mustang Fastback is also a far cry from its original self. New bucket seats have been installed up front while there is also a new bench seat at the rear. The classic also rocks an Alcantara headliner, molded carpet, Dynamat sound deadening, a Vintage Air air-conditioning system, a RetroSound head unit and new Focal speakers and a subwoofer.

While Velocity Modern Classics has only built a single example of its Ford Mustang Fastback, it is accepting reservations for newly built models and will have them ready to deliver starting in the fall of this year.
