WTF?

In the world of celebrity baby stories, Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder’s might just fill you with a quick dose of rage. Or confusion. In a new interview on Dr. Berlin’s “Informed Pregnancy” podcast this week, the couple opened up about their journey to pregnancy, which began when they traveled to Barcelona in 2016. According to Nikki, her feelings about kids at the time were mixed. “I didn’t know if I wanted kids. I love kids, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a mom. I just didn’t know.” And then, this happened: “[He] threw out all my birth control pills. That was it. That was also presumptuous,” Nikki said on the podcast (with a laugh – just listen). Nikki announced her pregnancy in May 2017 and gave birth to a baby girl, Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder, on July 25.

As Ian explained on the podcast, “unbeknownst to poor Nikki,” he went into her purse and grabbed the pills, a move one only imagines exists in a soap opera storyline when it's sweeps. “By the way, this was the beginning of the pack, so I had to pop all of those suckers out. There were like 25 of them. It’s a lot of work, especially after a little sangria.” As expected, Nikki’s reaction was the opposite of Thanks huz, you have my best interests at heart as she watched her pills go bye bye in the toilet. According to Ian, there's also "a six-minute video where she’s freaking out.”

Of giving birth, Nikki said the experience was "intense, intense, intense... I kept thinking, 'This is only the beginning." The couple also explained why they decided to share their birth story, considering how private they've always been about their relationship. "We feel so proud of this moment, above all things," according to Nikki. "And we want to do it again." OK but if you guys do it again, can it not involve birth control theft?

Update 9/22, 3:45 p.m.: Nikki has responded to the attention the couple's birth story has received, writing on Twitter, "WOMEN'S RIGHTS MATTER, so please don't use false narratives to highlight issues that are truly important! We should be talking about these things, but using a funny interview between married ppl &twisting it to perpetuate gossip is irresponsible."
