The Gossip Girl reboot is due for release on HBO this month – and hopefully not too long after in the UK – yay! And while we already know the ins and outs of all the new characters, OG Gossip Girl fans have been wondering whether or not we'll get to see some familiar faces in the reboot.

Unfortunately, it seems the answer to that question is no. Speaking to The Daily Beast, reboot creator Joshua Safran explained that although we can expect to see cameos from some minor characters, we won't be seeing the likes of Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen.

"There are some cameos in season one from people on the original show, but not the series regulars," he said.

Safran continued, "The decision was: Let’s get season one under our belt, and should we get season two, we’ll have the chance to bring in cameos that are more than glorified cameos but actually give them storylines."

"Hopefully we’ll get there [season two] and will reach out to the cast if that time comes and see if they’ll want to come," he added.

But what's behind the decision to keep the OG cast out of season one? Safran explained it's simply because "The audience would never accept these [new] characters if they were in the shadow of the original characters."

"They’re already in the shadow of the original characters, but if the original characters were there with them in some way, why would you want to briefly get to know Zoya if you suddenly can see Nate?" he said.

"If Blair showed up for two scenes, you’d say, 'I want more Blair.'"

He's got a point tbh.

So, while we wont be seeing Blair and Serena on the steps of The Met any time soon, let's keep our fingers crossed they'll make an appearance in the next season.
