END OF TERM REPORT: Boateng became part of the furniture during his three-and-a-half year spell at AC Milan, but the versatile midfielder took to his first year away from the Allianz Arena well. He arrived at Schalke, sitting 14th in the Bundesliga, and helped them finish third behind German heavyweights Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Along the way, the 27-year-old picked up seven goals, one coming in the Champions League. It was, though, a hefty defeat for Boateng in the first leg against eventual winners Real Madrid that saw Schalke crash out, surrendering 6-1 at home. Boateng, having played at Germany youth levels from the age of 15 to 21, opted for Ghana. The two Group G sides meet in what is sure to be a tasty tie for Boateng on June 26.
