Hugh Jackman had a pretty brutal time of it as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, but unsurprisingly, he handled it like a total gentleman.

More than 20 (!) years after the first X-Men movie, Hugh's co-star and fellow mutant Anna Paquin has opened up about the gruelling on-set experience they shared, admitting that he was "put through the wringer" during filming.

Anna – who played Rogue in X-Men and its sequels The Last Stand and Days of Future Past – spoke on SiriusXM about the perils of being Wolverine.

Admitting he was her best friend in the first movie, she added: "[Hugh] got put through the wringer on that first one and never, ever complained.

"It's minus 40 [degrees Fahrenheit] and he's being dropped off some building onto his back over and over and over again – and still has all the time in the world to be a nice, normal person."

Clearly fond of her former superhero colleague, Anna added: "Hugh was the person I was always closest with because I had all my scenes with him, and he's just wonderful."

Sounds about right for the nicest man in movies, doesn't it?

While we're not sure Hugh would ever have regrets about his time as Wolverine, perhaps Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen will breathe a sigh of relief over Anna's anecdote. He was originally selected for the role by director Bryan Singer, after all.
