Rebecca Romijn has revealed that she would be interested in returning to the X-Men movies.

The actress played Mystique in the first three films, between 2000 and 2006, and also made a cameo in 2011's X-Men: First Class - the first outing to feature Jennifer Lawrence in the role.

Romijn told Digital Spy that she is "absolutely" willing to return to the franchise for future instalments.

She added that she had "talked a lot" with Lawrence about the Mystique character and the rigours of applying the blue-skin make-up.

"But from what I understand, her make-up is very different from the make-up I went through," Romijn said. "I don't think she had to go through everything that I went through.

"It sounds like [she had an easier time] - although my theory is that going through nine hours of make-up, you're in such a rotten mood, you can't be anything but evil - it turns you into the villain that you need to be to play Mystique properly!"

Back in 2011, Lawrence confirmed that she had sought advice from Romijn upon playing a younger Mystique for the first time.

The Hunger Games star will play the part for a third time in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, which is set to explore the relationship between Mystique and Michael Fassbender's Magneto.

Rebecca Romijn stars in The Librarians, coming to Syfy UK on December 8.
