So what if it's been over 20 years? We're still not over Lois & Clark getting cancelled.

The Superman series was originally supposed to return for a fifth season, but was unexpectedly axed by ABC – which meant the '90s show ended on a cliffhanger.

The last episode – which aired in 1997 – saw Lois (Teri Hatcher) and Clark (Dean Cain) discover they were unable to have a child, only for a baby to be mysteriously deposited in their living room by persons unknown.

Now, executive producer Eugenie Ross-Leming has finally revealed what would've happened next.

"We didn't write it as a series finale, it was just supposed to be a cliffhanger," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"Looking to create obstacles for them, we ended up saying that carrying a baby to term would kill Lois. But as fate – or intergalactic justice – would have it, a baby of Krypton lineage is left at their doorstep.

"If the show had gone on, we would have seen them figuring out how to raise this child, who would have aged rapidly. He would have become a teenager in months."

Cruel fate robbed us of the opportunity to see our two heroes grappling with a super-powered teen... but is a Lois & Clark revival totally out of the question?

"I know I have a lot of fans that would like to see the whole show rebooted, so maybe that'll happen," said Teri Hatcher.

"Dean and I both still have really warm feelings about our whole experience on the show. So who knows?"

Cain previously told Digital Spy that he's open to a revival.

"I'd love to see a reunion happen," he said in 2016. "I'd love to finish it off somehow – that would be insane. It would be incredible. I wish someone would get on that."

You listening, Hollywood? If you can bring back Roseanne, you can bring back Lois & Clark.
