Voacanga africana is a small flowering plant in the dogbane family, Apocynaceae, that grows to 6 m in height. It is native to tropical Africa. The small tree has leaves that are up to 30 cm in length, and the tree produces yellow or white flowers, which after being successfully pollinated bear fruit with a green exocarp and yellow mesocarpsurrounding the seeds. The fruit naturally splits in half when it is ripe.Voacanga africana is an evergreen shrub or tree growing from 1 - 11 metres tall and branching from low down.
The tree has a long history of traditional medicinal use in Africa, where it also supplies food and a range of commodities. Various parts of the plant are exported to pharmaceutical companies in Europe, America etc as a source of medicinal compounds.

Thaumatococcus daniellii is a plant species from Africa, known for being the natural source of thaumatin, an intensely sweet protein which is of interest in the development of sweeteners. When the fleshy part of the fruit is eaten, this molecule binds to the tongue's taste buds, causing sour foods to taste sweet. It is a large, rhizomatous, flowering herb native to the rainforests of western Africa Thaumatococcus daniellii grows three to four meters in height, and has large, papery leaves up to 46 centimeters long. It bears pale purple flowers and a soft fruit containing a few shiny black seeds.
The fruit is covered in a fleshy red aril, which is the part that contains thaumatin. In its native range, the plant has a number of uses besides flavoring. The sturdy leaf petiolesare used as tools and building materials, the leaves are used to wrap food, and the leaves and seeds have a number of traditional medicinal uses.
Common names for this species include miracle fruit (but the unrelated species Synsepalum dulcificum is better known by that name and miracle berry; also katamfe or katempfe, Yoruba soft cane, and African serendipity berry.

Picralima is a plant genus in the dogbane family, Apocynaceae, first described as a genus in 1896. It contains only one known species, Picralima nitida, native to tropical Africa such as Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Gabon, Cameroon, Cabinda, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo,etc.
Picralima nitida, the akuamma, is a tree. The dried seeds from this plant are used in traditional medicine throughout West Africa, particularly in Ghana as well as in the IvoryCoast . The seeds are crushed or powdered and taken orally, and are mainly used for the treatment of malaria and diarrhoea, and as a painkiller. The plant produces the alkaloids pericine and akuammine, among others.
